I have a boiler which needed a new thermostat and clock. I bought the clock direct from manufacturer but when the guys came to fit it, they found that the current broken clock was bypassed by the previous owners and we didn't have the electrical drawings - the manufacturer refused to supply them as they weren't their engineers but the guys made a few calls and eventually got the drawings - all in all it took them 3 visits to get it sorted (about 2 hours labour) which wasn't their short fall at all. I was still only charged once even though they spent far longer sorting the problem.
